Green Apophyllite with Stilbite Cluster - One of a Kind, 4 x 4 In
Glassy green apophyllite shares this cluster with stilbite, and the two make an easy pair to admire up close.
The specimen is roughly square from the front, so the crystals spread evenly across the face instead of trailing off to one side. It fits in an open hand and sits well on a small stand, a desk or inside a curio cabinet. Collectors of zeolites and the minerals found with them will recognize the pairing at once, and it is an approachable first specimen for someone who wants a real mineral cluster rather than a polished shape.
About Apophyllite and Stilbite
Apophyllite is a group of phyllosilicate minerals that forms prismatic, glassy crystals in colorless, white and green. It is often listed with the zeolites but is classed separately. Stilbite is a true zeolite that tends to grow in sheaf or bow tie shaped bundles of thin crystals. The two are found together in cavities in basalt, and the Deccan Traps of India are known for pale green apophyllite with stilbite.
Stone Meaning: Green apophyllite is traditionally associated with clarity and renewal.
